Butternut squash might live in your kitchen, but it also makes a creamy, soothing base for a homemade face mask. This recipe pairs it with honey, a touch of tea tree oil and our Aloe Vera Sea Moss Gel for a mask that leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and refreshed.
Here are the simple steps.
Ingredients
Mix together in a small bowl:
- A few spoonfuls of butternut squash, cooked and pureed in a food processor
- 1 tsp honey
- 1/2 tsp bentonite clay powder
- 2 drops tea tree oil
- 1 tsp Aloe Vera Sea Moss Gel
Note: Clay powder can stain, so wear old clothing or a dark top.
How to Use It
Step 1: Stir 1 tablespoon of Aloe Vera Sea Moss Gel into the other ingredients until smooth.
Step 2: Start with clean skin. Wash your face and pat it dry with a clean towel.
Step 3: Smooth the mask over your face and neck and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 4: Rinse with cool water and follow with your usual serum or moisturizer.
Why These Ingredients
- Sea moss gel gives the mask a smooth, hydrating feel.
- Butternut squash makes a creamy, gentle base.
- Honey adds a soft, moisturizing feel and helps the mask stay put.
- Tea tree oil brings a fresh, clean scent. A couple of drops is plenty.
- Bentonite clay helps the mask set and leaves skin feeling clean and smooth.
Sea Moss in the Kitchen, Too
Sea moss is a red seaweed that naturally contains minerals such as iodine, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Our Aloe Vera Sea Moss Gel has a very mild taste, so it blends easily into smoothies, juices, tea, soups, sauces and baking, where it works as a natural thickener and a plant-based swap for gelatin.
A Few Simple Cautions
This mask is for external use only. Essential oils like tea tree can be strong, so always patch test a small amount on your inner arm first and wait 24 hours. Rinse right away and stop using it if you notice redness, itching or irritation. Keep it away from your eyes. If you have a skin condition, check with your dermatologist before trying new DIY skincare.
