Short answer: “blue gold” sea moss gel gets its color from blue spirulina (phycocyanin), a natural pigment extracted from spirulina algae. It is blended with golden sea moss, which is where the “gold” in the name comes from. Our version is Blue Spirulina & Honey Sea Moss Gel.

Where Does the Blue Come From?

Spirulina is a blue-green algae people have eaten for centuries. It contains a bright blue pigment called phycocyanin. Blue spirulina is the extracted pigment, so you get the vivid color without the strong “pond” taste of green spirulina powder. Phycocyanin is also an antioxidant.*

Why “Blue Gold”?

Natural sea moss gel is a soft golden color. Mix in blue spirulina and you get a deep ocean blue. The name blends the two: blue spirulina plus golden sea moss.

What Does Blue Sea Moss Gel Taste Like?

Very mild. Blue spirulina on its own tastes almost neutral, and the honey adds a light sweetness. In a smoothie you mainly notice the color. If you have tried green spirulina and did not like it, blue spirulina is a much easier start.
