Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) is a brown seaweed with a long history in European coastal herbal traditions, particularly in the British Isles and Scandinavia. It’s one of the three botanicals in our Sea Moss Ocean Greens Complex. Here’s what it brings to the formula. This is general information, not medical advice.

What Bladderwrack Is

Bladderwrack is a brown algae identifiable by the air-filled pods (bladders) along its fronds that keep it buoyant. It grows on North Atlantic and Pacific coastlines, commonly alongside Irish moss. Like sea moss, it naturally contains iodine, historically a key reason it was valued in coastal European communities.

Key Nutrients and Compounds

Traditional Use

In 19th century Europe, bladderwrack was valued as a natural source of iodine. In coastal communities it was enjoyed fresh, dried or as a tea as part of everyday wellness routines.

Why It Pairs With Sea Moss and Burdock Root

Sea moss provides a broad range of naturally occurring minerals. Burdock root is a traditional digestive botanical that contains inulin, a natural fiber, and supports healthy digestion.* Bladderwrack adds naturally occurring iodine, which supports normal thyroid function and metabolism.*

Our Sea Moss Ocean Greens Complex provides 840 mg per two-capsule serving: 600 mg sea moss extract, 120 mg burdock root extract (10:1) and 120 mg bladderwrack extract (4:1), made in a cGMP-certified facility in the USA.

Sea moss and bladderwrack naturally contain iodine. If you are pregnant or nursing, have a medical condition, take medication, or are under 18, talk with your healthcare provider before use.
